2022: A look back...

Today is January 3, 2023. A new year for all of us. I am a bit anxious as we start a new year as we don't know what will unfold for all of us this year. But allow me to look back on the events that happened last year - 2022.

January - After all the merry making and celebrations of 2021 as the covid restrictions became more relaxed and we experience a bit of normalcy again... there came the surge of Omicron Variant for Covid 19. Just like most of the people in Manila, we got Covid for the very first time. Our whole family tested positive for Covid. And since most people became sick, we experienced shortage of paracetamol. Over-the-counter medicines to treat fever, cough and colds are all out of stock. Even the laboratories who evaluates the RT-PCR test had a huge backlog and instead of 24 hours results... people get their results for RT-PCR after 1-2 weeks. This is when we realized that a lot are really sick. They said... oh no... is 2022 - 2020 too again?

February - This was a good month as most of the people have recovered already. Children are back to their online classes as the school declared a health break in January due to the surge. So happy also that our kids were fully vaccinated for Covid-19 this month! :)

March - Since it is becoming hot already, and summer starts to kick in - we planned an overnight trip to Subic. This is our first beach trip since the pandemic happened. We really maximized our time in Subic as we spent the day with a trip in the zoo then stayed in a beach resort. The following day, we went to a water park. We were all happy to be able to go on a road trip again.

April – This is Gerard’s birthday month but since his birthday was during the holy week – we just had a simple celebration at home. This is also the month where we had online Family Day celebrations. Since classes are still online, even the celebrations/extra-curricular activities are done online too. It was okay as we were lucky to win in the raffle prizes.

May – For this month, we have planned a trip to Mind Museum. It is enjoyable going to these kind of places as you become like a kid again, learning and discovering new things and new experiences.

June – As this is the birth month of my sister, we went to a beach trip with the De Guzmans. It is so much fun to be able to spend a weekend again at the beach with the whole family. The kids really enjoyed the weekend and wished that we had stayed longer.

July – Another trip with the family – this time in Baguio! It is the first time for our kids and they enjoyed the cool weather. They said that it felt like we are in another country.

August  – This is Gavin’s birthday month. He had two celebrations – one is just a simple celebration in our house where we invited our neighbors. There was a storm a day before so it was a blessing in disguise that classes were suspended on Gavin’s birthday. The second celebration is with family where we rented a huge inflatable for kids to enjoy. Gavin wanted a tropical summer vibe for his birthday even if it is officially the rainy season.

September – This is my birthday month but unfortunately we got Covid for the second time. This gave me the chance to reflect, be grateful and appreciative of all the blessings that I continue to receive amidst the pandemic.

October – Since my family got covid in September, I was able to celebrate my birthday with friends only by October. So October became the month for meet up with friends.

November – My highlight for this month is when our project in my workplace won first place as the best project in the Digital Conference. It was so unexpected so we were all so happy to be able to be declared as the first runner-up. ðŸ˜Š

December – This is Giulia’s month and of course a lot of festivities because of the Christmas season. We had a lot of parties – birthday and Christmas parties. We were also able to go to Clark, Pampanga as this is Giulia’s wish to be able to go that specific waterpark. It was also a bonus that the hotel where we stayed prepared a simple birthday set-up. December is truly a time to be merry!

Now for this year, I will try to do again my 365 days of appreciation similar to what I did a few years ago. I will post the highlight of each day for this year. So stay tuned!
