A Trip to Salcedo Market

I have heard a lot of good things about the Salcedo Market. It was only last April 9 that we had the chance to visit and see what Salcedo Market offers...

From my research in the internet, Salcedo Market started in 2004 with a few stalls but later on grew to become an exciting destination for budding cosmopolitan culinary adventurers.

It is located in the confines of Jaime C. Velasquez Park sandwiched between the streets of Leviste and Tordesillas in Salcedo Village, Makati City. It is open only on Saturdays from 7 am to 2 PM. We heard that there is a similar market opened in Legaspi Village every Sunday.

Anyway, it’s a nice place for anyone interested in food. If you like cooking things, there are a variety of fresh produce available and almost all the produce are organic.

Note: Picture just taken from internet.

The usual vegetables can be found as well as herbs like Tarragon, Basil, Thai Basil, Rosemary and Thyme. There are also an assortment of fruits and vegetables, even a stall that sells kaffir lime plants and curry bushes.

A variety of good steaks are there: Wagyu, Angus, Aged and Seasoned Rib Eye and Prime Rib. The Seafood available is even better. They have Norwegian salmon, lobster’s, mantis shrimp, crab and fishes.

If you’re not into cooking and would just like to enjoy food already cooked, there are even lots more to choose from. And the choices are plenty. From Portuguese seafood delights, to Turkish baklavas to French crepes made by a chef from Bretagne, France to tasty Spanish Paellas and German wursts to name a few from the Eurozone. Homemade traditional Filipino recipes from the different regions of the country are also well-represented wherein they also offer lechon Cebu and lechon baka.

Though the market tends to play more to expatriates and rich Makati clientele you are bound to find something to suit your budget, your taste or your dietary restrictions.

The market also sells flowers, plants, herbs, baskets and kitchen accessories. We actually bought this low-maintenance plant for only 50 pesos!

It is truly a perfect centerpiece! :)

So if have nothing better to do on a Saturday or you are in for a food trip... go and visit Salcedo Market. It is truly an extraordinary one-stop food shop... :)
