Peri Peri Charcoal Chicken

Last Sunday, my family decided to go to Megamall... and since we are from the South, this huge mall is really unfamiliar territory for us...

Anyway, we decided to look for a restaurant which looks cheap but interesting... and fortunately, we came across Peri Peri Charcoal Chicken. “Home of the World Famous Portuguese Style grilled Chicken”

"Piri-piri, peri-peri or peli-peli is the name used in Portuguese and a number of African languages to describe the African bird's-eye chilli, a member of the capsicum plant genus. This is a small and extremely spicy variety. The variations in spelling derive from the various pronunciations of the word in parts of Africa, although "piri-piri" is the correct spelling in Portuguese. " (en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Peri_peri)

So just looking at the definition, you can already assume that peri peri chicken would have an exotic taste. Hmmm… interesting right?

Also as we get closer, we saw that the restaurant has a promo – Soup and Beverage All you want for only P49.00…

Of course, we decided to go and try it ourselves..

The place is quite small and we were actually waitlisted… Though it just took less than 5 minutes until we were given a table.

The restaurant has a bright and cheerful atmosphere which maybe because of the yellow bright lanterns above each table.

Since we are a small group of 5, we decided to order 1 whole peri-peri chicken and 2 large servings of rice… ( 1 plain and 1 java rice). We also availed of the promo P49.00 each since we saw that a regular drink already costs P40.

After our order was taken, we immediately went to the long table to get our ‘round 1’ soup and drink. There are only 2 kinds of soup – Cream of Mushroom and Broccoli Cream Soup. The mushroom soup tastes like the typical mushroom soup though it didn’t have much bits of mushroom. But since it is unlimited, I went for a second serving. On the other hand, they had a wide variety of drinks – you can choose from  --  normal soda, iced tea, four seasons, coffee, hot tea etc.

Soup and drinks are okay or just right… especially considering the cheap price of P49.00.

Then the 1 whole chicken came along with the 2 platters of rice. The presentation of the chicken is normal and ordinary… However, the flavor makes up for it.  It’s like our local Chicken Inasal with a twist. You can taste some herbs and other flavors on it. It’s supposedly more healthy because the excess fat has been trimmed before being charcoal grilled.

Bottomline, we were satisfied and left the restaurant super full!

I just hope they decide to have branches in Makati, Paranaque and Muntinlupa soon.
