Let go and let God part 2

Image
Disclaimer: The first part of this speech was actually taken from a previous post on this blog. This is my speech no. 10 for Toastmasters. Yahoo! I am now a competent communicator! ====================================================================== Let go and let God. This is the title of my toastmaster’s speech no. 1. It talks about my life, the obstacles that I went through and how I lived by my motto – to just let go and let God. Now that this is my speech no. 10, I think it is just fitting that I end my toastmaster’s journey with a speech about my new life – a life of a new mother. Allow me first to share the first instance, a tip of the iceberg, my first pregnancy. Actual photo of my PT March 2010 , I got a pregnancy kit to check if I was positive. I was not expecting anything because I have checked several times and the result was always NEGATIVE... But lo and behold, I saw 2 pink lines on the stick!!! It was around 5:30 AM when I checked and I...

S.T.E.W.A.R.D of Singapore

Here's my speech no. 9 for Toastmasters. ================================== Steward of Singapore Before you raise your eyebrows and think that I am about to change my career and become a flight attendant to Singapore, hold your horses and listen to my speech. I am definitely not qualified to become a stewardess for obvious reasons but not to disappoint you further; I am still here to talk about Singapore. Singapore can be found in Southeast Asia and is regarded as one of the world's richest countries. Most travelers simply pass through, or only allocate three days, all of which are spent complaining on how expensive things are in Singapore. Unfortunately the little city-country has garnered a reputation over the years as being a budget smasher and even Singaboring. While there is no denying that Singapore certainly is more expensive than the other countries in Southeast Asia, you actually can enjoy this pleasant city. Fortunately, I have found a wealth of interesting -- and...

The world of Blogging

This is my toastmaster speech # 7 - Research your topic ===================================== Do you remember the TV series – Doogie Howser MD during the 90’s? It is about a 16-year old doctor who shares stories of being the youngest doctor and at the same time, shares his experience in trying to live a normal teenage life. The show ends with a scene wherein Doogie Howser writes or better yet types in his diary on the computer. This show became my inspiration – not to become a doctor but rather, to keep a diary in my computer when I was young. Just like Doogie Howser, I would end my day with an entry in my diary. I was able to maintain my diary for quite some time… but unfortunately I got busy with other things that I could not find time to write on my diary daily and then eventually I just had to stop. Just a few years back, Eunice, a friend of mine introduced me to her blog . It serves as her online diary. I actually got hooked to reading her every entry and following her bl...

Sports and Me

Image
Sharing another Toastmaster's Speech... ======= Sports and Me. I have admiration for sports legend, the likes of Tiger Woods for golf, Maria Sharapova or Roger Federer, for tennis, National Pride – Manny Pacquiao for boxing, and yes, our very own, Richard Daza, for basketball. But that is the “be all and end all” of sports for me.   Yes, you are correct.   There is no trace of athletic blood   in my vein. Since Physical Education is always part of the curriculum in school, I cannot avoid but engaged in sports, but to no avail; I was always a mediocre. I think the old cliché – “Try and try until you succeed”   is not applicable to sports and me. I never excelled in any field and passed the subjects for my efforts and, of course, for making good in the written examinations. For example, playing volleyball becomes an earthquake drill whenever it’s time for me to serve the ball. They have to duck and cover because the ball goes everywhere and you’ll never know if it...

Not so typical valentines speech

Image
This is one of the toastmaster speech I delivered a few days before Valentine's day last year. ========== Good afternoon.   February 14 is a red-letter day for many people. This is the day most people look forward to, especially for the lovers.   But for me, this is just an ordinary day, nothing special,   for I   do not believe in celebrating Valentine’s Day. In fact,   I feel awkward to stand in front of you   to deliver a valentine’s speech.   Yes, you guess it right – I am the   scrooge of Valentines.   But before you raise your eyebrows and give me a piercing look, allow me to state my reasons … First, for me, the origins of Valentines day is not clear. The holiday appears to be   named after two      early Christian martyrs named Valentine of Rome and Valentine of Terni. Valentine of Rome [9] was a priest in Rome while Valentine of Terni became bishop of Interamna   and both were martyred and buried on the ...
